KCG cultural'13 - Feast of Music

The beginning of the awesomeness:

I was really excited about the upcoming cultural fest in KCG College of Technology. Unfortunately, It was postponed due to some chaos happening all over the state of Tamil Nadu. But still, I and my friends were able to conduct the Light music and Battle of Bands competitions before the colleges got closed.

18th March, 2013.

Morning 8.00 A.M.

I rushed from my college bus and ran to my class to get the competitions to start off soon. Already Grandin Major, the Student Coordinator of the cultural'13 from the IT department, was busy in making arrangements in the KMC Auditorium. I took the 'on duty permission' letter for the Cultural Volunteers, gave it to the respective class representatives and ran off to the Auditorium. Already Singers and Musicians conquered the Auditorium. They were busily rehearsing for the competition. The Student coordinator is such a very busy person at that time and I couldn't even get hold of him even for a minute!

Morning 9.30 A.M.

We were already late to conduct the competitions. Initially, there was a Quiz competition conducted by Kowshik from Mechanical Department. With the help of Grandin and the cultural volunteers, he managed to finish off his preliminaries soon.

What else!? It was the timing for musical beasts to get fed by some music.

Morning 10.30 A.M.

The Auditorium got filled with singers, musicians and cheerful supporters all around and it seems to be getting hot as the time goes. Grandin Major and the Cultural Volunteers were totally busy in coordinating the events and organising the competitors.
Finally, Musical instruments were set! Microphones were set! Volume were set! Judges ready with their pens! singers and musicians were ready to rock on the stage!!!

It started off with the Light Music Competition, they were totally eight bands from various departments including the first year students. I was really happy to know that out of eight, three bands were from the Science and Humanities Department (First Year students).

Morning 11 A.M.

First performance was started off by the first year students. Young singers and also the future of the KCG rocked on the stage. I was glad to see how the juniors are performing on the stage. I was sitting in front of the stage with Grandin Major and Naveen Dayakar (Light Music Coordinator from the ECE department) and enjoyed those performances.

Aravin Takshan, a simple inspiring guitarist from the Mechanical Department (3rd year) set his foot for the first time for the Light Music competition with his hard working band crew on stage.  Aravin was excited about his first performance on stage but to our surprise, those guys really rocked on stage with their singers Ananth Narayan and Guna Alex and on audience request Guna Alex sang the song once again and made the whole crowd scream in joy. Next, students from my department (ECE) gave a wonderful performance. Arjun and Muhil Vahini, lead singers of the ECE band once again stunned everyone by their mesmerising voices. Finally, Last competitor, Philemon Patrick, the rock star of KCG from the Mechanical Department gave his final light music performance with the lead singer Hasnain Kutub. Again to our greatest surprise, he sang a peppy song "paloma polama" and gave the crowd a stunning performance.

On Cloud Nine!

The results of the Light music Competition was announced by the Judge. Everyone were eager to know who were shortlisted from these amazing bands. Judges gave some friendly advice on how the stage performance should be.
He announced: ECE band has been shortlist in the first place! The band crew were so much happy because they bagged the first prize for the second time and the other two places were occupied by the Mechanical Department students- Aravin Takshan and Philemon Patrick.

Afternoon 12.30 P.M.

Without any break, Vocal solo singing competition continued. Out of many singers, 8 amazing singers were selected from the preliminaries. Again, the war started between the singers on the stage. All the participants amazed the judges by their siren voices. Sri ram and Sri prakash sriram gave an extraordinary performance with their amazing vocals. Lead singers of ECE band, Arjun and Muhil Vahini also gave their best melody performances. Anjali Ganesh from ECE department is the only one who gave a classical touch performance.
Finally, the results were announced:  Arjun from ECE and supraja from S&H together bagged first prize, Muhil Vahini and Anjali Ganesh from ECE together bagged the second prize.

Afternoon 2 P.M.

We managed to get a little break to have our lunch. Still though, Coordinator Grandin was making everything ready for the next event "solo Instrumental". After that little break, the event started. Participants who plays keyboard, guitar, violin, drums and even mridhangam was there to take part in the solo instrumental final round. everyone gave pretty good performances. The best performance was gave by the best drummer in the KCG college of technology, Ram kumar from Mechanical department (2nd year). He gave an electrifying performance which stirred the minds of the judges and also the other participants and the audience. secondly, similarly like Ram kumar, there was another person named Akshay, he is also a drummer, who was merely gave a performance like Ram kumar. Naveen Dayakar from ECE department played violin accompanied by the guitarist, Richard mathews. He played the heart melting melody from the movie, 'roja' and 'nee thaane en ponvasantham'. Finally, Rk Nalin gave his classical performance with Mridhangam followed by the coordinator (Grandin) himself on stage playing the keyboard.
Judges announced: Ram kumar bagged the first prize (obviously!!), Naveen Dayakar and Akshay together bagged the second prize and the classical mridhangam guy, Nalin and Grandin together bagged the third prize.

Afternoon 3.30 P.M.

Followed by the solo instrumental event, the Battle of Bands event took place. The Rock star, Philemon Patrick and his band crew stood on the stage and rocked once again. A band from the Mechanical Department led by Burton Carey, EEE department and finally first year students made their awesome performances.
Judges announced: Philemon Patrick from the mechanical department bagged the first prize, the first year students and Burton Carey's band from the mechanical department  together bagged the second prize and finally third prize was bagged by EEE Department.

End of the musical fest:

Finally, all the events got over by 4 P.M. After that tiresome day, everyone was completely satisfied by the performances, coordination and organizing they made. Cultural Coordinator, Grandin Major, teachers as well as the HOD's and the Cultural Volunteers worked hard for the events to be conducted properly without any chaos. A big applause should be given to the Coordinator for his best coordination.

This is what, I call as a 'day'!!! Nothing can be so much awesome than this!!!

Thank you, KCG!
